In the Middle Ages there was a Great Beguinage here. In 1749 the last remains of the Beguinage were cleared and the vacant site was designed as exercise place for a garrison, thus the name Parade.
Of all the squares in 's-Hertogenbosch, the market is the oldest. On this market the first houses of Den Bosch were built and the city was founded here in 1185.
Chassé Theater, designed by architect Herman Hertzberger, has an undulating roof. The architect was inspired by a sculpture of a reclining woman. The theater is named after General Chassé.
