Didn’t eat here but visited Danish-Icelandic architect Ólafur Eliasson‘s studio. You don’t just get to see some nice works of his but also have a view across the harbour towards Harpa.
Try to see it from different angles and go inside to not miss the just as spectacular view. It‘s highly recommended to pass by architect Olafur Eliasson‘s Reykjavik studio at Marshallhúsið.
Most bars in Reykjavik are either dark, smelly or empty. The Kex hostel restaurant/bar was packed on a Friday night and supercosy. We ended up staying much longer than planned.
Nice design and friendly staff. Room was not too spacious but comfy and we slept extremely well. Especially liked that they provided coffee and pastries upon departure in the early morning hours.
Stopped here on our way from EasyCamp for lunch and were very happy with the healthy and delicious food options. There’s a good bakery inside as well where we got our first tasty cinnamon rolls.
Glad we followed the recommendations and rented from EasyCamp. The staff was super friendly and helpful and our campervan never let us down during our 6 day Golden Circle trip. Also we never got cold.
I found this almost too typical a wellness place that you could also find elsewhere but the architecture is remarkable. It wasn’t too crowded and out of all baths we visited the most relaxing.
The most beautiful waterfall I got to see. Not only because it‘s so wide but also due to the dramatic setting. On top of this it comes with a story. I took nice pictures on both sides of the falls.
We skipped Blue Lagoon right away and tried other baths. Compared to Secret Lagoon and Krauma, I liked Myvatn best. It‘s big enough to enjoy the quiet beauty of the place and the surrounding hills.
It’s not particularly picturesque but no doubt impressive. Due to the weather conditions only the west road was accessible. If I had to skip a Golden Circle sight, it would probably be Dettifoss.
Stop at the little cafe and pay your entrance fee before moving on. The elderly couple running the place was very likeable. Skip the viking village and drive up to the beach for some stunning fotos.
This is a no. 1 stop for breathtaking pictures. I didn’t do the boat tour and was absolutely happy with the views you get from different angles along the the shore.
Went in autumn and was stunned by the colourful foliage. The combination of the basalt rocks, the autumn trees and the water were absolutely impressive. The hike was enjoyable and not too long.
This place has a mysterious feel but the large crowds you‘ll meet here can easily spoil it. Come early or late, stroll along the beach and take your time to catch the special atmosphere.
Not to be missed. For our 4x4 campervan the dirtroad up the hill was no issue. You get to see lots of seabirds, the lighthouse, the famous black beach and coastline from above and the pierced rock.
Should definitely be on your list. I found it most beautiful from a little further back. In my opinion you can skip the way up, it won’t get any more interesting.
The pool‘s not that remarkable but the surroundings are. The thermal springs were that close you could watch the geysir erupt while taking a bath. Unforgettable.
Not the most breathtaking sight in Iceland but nothing you can simply skip. The continental drift is very impressive to see, even without the dive. And don’t miss the Althing spot next to the church.
Never had crepes here but it’s great for a nice cup of coffee as well while watching the people pass by on Westerland promenade.
I love their outdoor seating: cosy and easy to get in touch with other people. The wine is good and affordable.
