Redefining and completing the narrative of African Americans in America. A journey that will take more than a few visit to fully see everything. A beautiful dedication to our culture.

You'll need more than one day to take it all in. Trust me. But, it is the most amazing museum I've ever been to.

You could spend weeks here! Tickets are booked up right now, but there are limited number of same-day tickets available every morning online at 6:30. Well worth it!

The architecture, views of DC from within, space design all combine to make this a pleasant and peaceful yet commanding environment.

The Culture floor was the best... it took me back to my child/teen years and I danced a little. It was packed though and some of the areas with video were hard to appreciate with the noise of others

Within my first visit to this museum, this has become my favorite museum to visit. There are tons of great exhibits to see, digest and experience. I definitely plan to go back and see what I missed.
  • Chris R.
Take the whole day and absorb it all. From the history of the slave trade, through the civil war and civil rights era including a good look at the contribution of African Americans through the years.

Knowing there are waits on weekends, I decided to ask if I could get in -- and they let me in! The woman at the door said she had extra spots to give away. So it's worth asking -- just have a plan B.

Amazing museum, well designed. Like the lower fls but its so depressing to see. Reflecting pool is nice place to reenergize. Food great, get the fried chicken and potato salad side, skip mac n chse

The fourth floor houses the museum's cultural artifacts. You can see the Funkadelic mothership and A.J.'s hat from Good Times. I Didn't need advanced tickets to see the museum but the place is packed.

An amazing museum full of joy, accomplishment, and sadness. There is so much to see it cannot be done in one go. Even if it's sold out, show up and some kind stranger may give you their extra tickets!

You’ll need multiple visits to get through. It’s still very crowded but the value of a free museum of African American history & culture makes for an incredible and memorable education.

A bit overwhelming. You do need almost 2 full days to see it. Do the above ground floors one day which is about the culture and the below ground the other day, which is more about history

While the museum experience best begins below floors, that can be a 30 minute to 2 hour wait. See some of the galleries upstairs first.

One of my favorite places in the world. Everyone needs to visit this museum. It is well done and gives you an awesome experience in the history of America. The most beautiful museum in the world.

Immersive, amazing experience. Be prepared to wait in line, but be prepared to learn something new. Will take multiple visits to see entire museum.

The basement levels follow a narrative structure of African-American history, while the upper levels are more short-stories on cultural impact
  • Chris C.
Tons of information. American history lesson in context, possibly different from how you learned it. We need a second visit!
  • Hannah C.
An amazing journey celebrating the cultural contributions of African Americans, as well as revealing the wretched history of slavery and the power and perseverance of black people over 7 centuries.

Incredibly heart wrenching overview of African American history so far, culminating in Obama's presidency. An absolute must for all Americans, old and new.

Bring comfortable shoes. You're going to want to explore and read and learn and experience for a long time.

Some exhibits were better than others. The overall experience is worth the trip. Our history is on full display and worth the recognition it deserves.

One of, if not the greatest history museum ever. The culture is rich and the history will forever be American!

This will take all day. There's technically 6 floors: 3 above, 3 below ground level. Use the reflection room when the content gets too heavy in the lower floors.
  • Christian B.
Incredible experience. Don't plan to try to see it all in one day. Start from the ground floor, slowly work your way through. SO much to see.

Absolutely staggering amount of content at this cultural museum. Start in the bottom basement, make your way back to Ground. Then go to floor 4, then back to the ground.

You cannot visit all to see here in one day. You need at least a week. I didn't want to leave. So much to learn and absorb.

I really didn't get a proper chance to enjoy the museum. To put it nicely, there were several patrons that made it very difficult to read and examine the details of the exhibits.
