It reopened after the shutdown! The walk around the island was nice, but a bit muddy in parts. Do not miss the Roosevelt statue inthe middle!
The latte was great! Very good for hanging out and meeting friends. It is a quiet, but conversation friendly atmosphere.
Hike the Appalachian trail from the parking lot to the historic down town. Just takes 20 mins and has beautiful views.

Great for a family hike. Not so muddy in the winter (all frozen). Bring hiking boots though, it is steep and rough in parts.
An artwork in itself. Do not miss this beautiful place when visiting the area! Great intersection of shapes, nature and light. Dress warm in winter, you will walk outdoors quite a bit!
One of the best museums in DC. You will be touched and leave with many thoughts and emotions. Bring your glasses: the lights are dimmed and the captions are hard to read (mostly white text on black).
They decorate it beautifully for the holidays! Nice stop to warm up when it is cold outside.
