Balin: Willkommen in Aachen!

Balin: Check out one of the cafes on the periphery or grab a bottle of something from the grocery store or kiosk. Take a seat on the Rathaus steps or at the base of the fountain and enjoy the view!

Balin: Stop by on Tuesdays and Thursdays to keep your kitchen stocked with fresh produce, meat and cheese. The market doubles as a nice place to take your lunch or pick up flowers.

Balin: Having taken many forms over the centuries, the Karlsbrunnen is the oldest fountain in Aachen and has stood on the Markt since 1334. The original Charlemagne figure can be seen in the Krönungssaal.

Balin: The cafe is nice for a simple breakfast. If you're looking for a present, snag a bag of Schokoladen-Weichprinten (zartbitter) from the shop - soft and covered in dark chocolate, you can't go wrong.

Balin: If the weather's decent, grab a beer (or ice cream), find a free spot and watch the world go by.

Balin: Best in the summer when you can sit outside - it's a great spot for people-watching.

Balin: Pick out something at the dessert counter, take a slip, then find a cozy little nook to pass an hour or two.

Balin: Nice beer selection. There's free live music on Monday nights (and sometimes Wednesdays, too) from October until the end of April - check their site for more. Good spot to chill and meet people.

Balin: Great spot in the middle of the city to enjoy a coffee and something sweet. In the summer, go for a slice of Eistorte!

Balin: They have cider!

Balin: There isn't a lot of seating, but the food here is very good. Straightforward menu: select a pasta, sauce and something to drink.

Balin: If you like burgers, live in Aachen and haven't been here yet, you should probably do something about that.

Balin: Beim schlendern durch die Pontstraße unbedingt vorbeischauen und einen Wrap probieren!

Balin: Grab a table and your drinks at Egmont, then order Flammkuchen (tarte flambée) from La Jeunesse and ask for it to be brought across the street to you - it's no problem to do! Ziegenkäse for the win.

Balin: Die Kaffeegetränke und Service sind gut in dieser grünen, ruhigen Oase unterhalb des Marktes.

Balin: In a word: Pink.

Balin: The Sunday brunch buffet is worth checking out - not the best thing ever, but it has decent variety for under €9.

Balin: Looking for a warm lunch that you can eat on the go? Add cheese to a crispy chicken wrap and you're all set.

Balin: Like stepping back in time - it's a family affair with the husband, wife, dog and sometimes even the kids, too. There's usually Rockabilly blasting from the stereo. You'll have fun and get a nice cut.

Balin: Feel at home in Stefan's living room - enjoy good drinks, games or even a round of nine-pin bowling in the basement. If you get hungry, call in a pizza for delivery.

Balin: Kick back in a hammock!

Balin: Got a sweet tooth? Check out the factory outlet for everything from holiday shopping to deals on perfectly good chocolate that was broken or incorrectly packaged on its way down the production line.

Balin: This is hands down THE place to go out for a meal in Aachen. It's cozy, service is impeccable, the menu is refined and the chef is chatty and welcoming. Definitely call ahead to reserve a table.

Balin: Great things from the Netherlands - the prices are a bit high, but the bagels are good and the service is always outstanding. If you have to wait, you'll probably get offered a shot of juice.

Balin: Heerlijke echte Duitse schnitsel welke je hele bord vult, heerlijke saus naar keuze. Gezellige bediening de je alle aandacht geeft.

Balin: Best pizza in Aachen.
