Often-overlooked animals: the giant tortoises near the exit; the hornbills, who often flaunt food in their beaks at passersby (usually dead mice); the Koopaesque snapping turtle in the reptile house.

HISTORYAbril 19, 2010The zoo opened in 1889 whenbusinessman George V. Gress purchased a bankrupt traveling circus & donated the animals to Atlanta. In 1999 the zoo joined only 2 other zoos in housing giant pandas.
The season pass is worth every penny! It costs less than two trips, and allows you to make short visits without feeling guilty about not seeing everything every time.

Love this zoo! Everyone should get a membership.
