Honestly a lot better than it used to be since the renovation. I’ll choose Stansted over Gatwick if coming from East London. (All is 100x better than Luton.)
The airport is so much nicer after the renovation, lots of eateries and shops to choose between + large duty free shop.

Serena MarijaMarzo 1, 2018Clean and modern but always far too cold from the dozens of automatic doors opening, not great when you are sat waiting for your flight in the early hours of the morning and it is freezing!
After some recent renovation, the airport operates well better. Security lanes take 3-10 minutes, even in a really busy day. If you are flying with Ryan air, stop moaning, you should know the rules.
My favourite regional airport, but beware if picking up / dropping off - short stay parking is extortionate. 2hrs free parking at nearby Birchanger Services - wait there for your passenger to call!
I really like that airport. It's crowded, sometimes the organization is bad but still it has its own charm. Try to get the latest flight once. You'll be surprised how calm it is.

Follow on around the corner and there is a bar around the back- Loving the new look with some good shopping and selection of restaurants. The electronic check in machines will let you have 20.9 kg before charging you.
Lauma ZAgosto 25, 2014Easy to get there by train (40 min from Liverpool Station) or bus, otherwise the airport is far away from London. Free WiFi is available for an hour and there are many shops ( quite expensive though).
Stansted Express is running perfectly to Liverpool Street and it is the best way to commute. There is almost always a long queue for passport control upon landing

Security here can be SUPER slow, invest in Fast Track. Train is the quickest (and IMHO, best) way to and from the city, unless you're going to the outskirts of London, then Uber might be better.
You can catch planes from here. There is also a direct train to London Liverpool Street. A few shops and cafes in the airport, it's what you'd typically expect of an airport.

Use the bridge bar hidden around the corner from Wetherspoons but well sign posted - it's much quieter & therefore quicker service.

Sometimes it's a haven of peace and quiet, other times it's a heaving mess. There's no way of telling in advance which one it will be, so just be prepared for the latter...
If you are early do not go through security, the departure lounge has 1 atom of floor space, surrounded on all sides by shops, whatever seats there are people cling onto them like life rafts.Votación a favor hace Jan 27
Decent airport with lots of shops and choices to eat. Total con that you have to pay £3.50 for up to 10 mins drop off!
Bardia K.Enero 1, 2018Might feel like a giant duty free shop with an airport attached to it. Worth exploring security lines to find the shortest; furthest left was out the door, furthest right had no queue at all.
Escape Lounge a good refuge ... Good selection of hot and cold food (pies, sausage rolls; potato, bean, green & couscous salads)

GatisNoviembre 10, 2023As of November 2023 if you arrive at the first security gates at left hand side you will be asked to trial a new security scanner system. All the liquid's and wallets MUST be in a bag. Much faster.

Matt AndersonDiciembre 21, 2012Gourmet Hot Dog in the main concourse is the least Gourmet experience I have ever had. Served up a cold sausage and when I asked for a hot one the guy picked it up with his fingers and offered it.
Try Stansteds official parking website to book parking in short term Orange. Costs about £10-15 more than long term but so convenient and no wait at all to get out of the airport.
Quick lines at security. Nice offering of shops and restaurants. Take the train to reach London.

Don't go straight to the wetherspoons for breakfast... Walk to the right of it through a corridor and you find the Bridge bar and restaurant. Much nicer and much quieter.
What a totally ridiculous new layout. Winding lane of shops to go through just after security. People stopping and tripping over each other. You should have left it as it was!
