MUST go to place for a foodie in LA. Jose Andres (the chef) was featured on 60 Minutes last year; it is pricy though. Philly Cheesesteak & the beet salad are must haves.
Nice upscale gastropub w/ tremendous food. Almost everything is cooked in wood fired ovens & they use different flavors of wood each night. Only issue: Tough to get a table...book way ahead!
Small place, but has quickly become the must go to place for chefs when they visit LA; they are doing some crazy things with meat there. The bacon chocolate bar for dessert is great!
Michael Voltagio is widely considered the best Top Chef winner of all the Top Chefs and he doesn't disappoint at his place. Presentation and creativity is truly impressive.

I don't know how to describe this fusion place, but it is a MUST try. Their baco's (which are an SE Asia influenced sandwich) are amazing and something I find myself craving all the time.
Upscale Vietnamese fusion; Amazing and creative food!; Probably the most beautifully prepared food anywhere in town. TOTALLY worth going to!
Mario Batali's pizza place that is fantastic and surprisingly cheap (rarely spend more than $25 person); Great pizzas and lot's of fantastic non-pizza dishes.
Upscale Mexican with a fun vibe and one the best flans anywhere (call ahead to reserve because they often sell out).
Zoe Nathan is the queen of dessert in West LA. Her new(ish) bakery & pizzaria rocks. The garlic knots are addictive!
Another great dressed up gastropub. Highlights include sloppy roast pork, shrimp & grits & beer battered caramel popcorn. Sunday night ban mi night rocks!
Upscale Mexican; Amazing atmosphere/vibe (probably the most beautiful restaurant in LA); food is very good, but not amazing.
Another excellent upscale place with pan-cultural foods; the hamachi croque madame, date-crusted lamb sautéed in gingerbread crumbs are famous signature dishes.
